One big idea we discussed in Macbeth was guilt. Guilt was a very huge part of the book with multiple characters. The big feeling of guilt was mainly coming from Macbeth. Macbeth basically did the what first came to his head. When the three witches told Macbeth he was going to be king, he took matters into his own hands. With matters in his own hands, it was already bound to go downhill from that point. Murder after murder, they started becoming more personal with Macbeth. His guilt from his first personal murder, Duncan, was the starting point of his road to insanity. After Duncan, he hired people to murder Banquo. Banquo was Macbeth's best friend, but since he got in the way of him becoming king, he chose to get rid of him. The guilt was shared also with Lady Macbeth, his partner in crime. She was also driven to insanity by her guilt.
Macbeth's guilt gradually got worse. He was murdering some of his closest friends in order to receive and ensure that he was in charge and had the upmost power in the country. He was too caught up in the witch's prophecy and convinced he was invincible that he proceeded to do all these terrible things without thinking it through. His guilt eventually caught up with him. The prophecy was seemingly impossible to occur but it did have its loop holes. Birnhum wood did move and when Macbeth heard that from the messenger, he knew death was possible. Macduff's family was killed by the murders hired by Macbeth, and Macduff was furious. Macduff then beheaded Macbeth and Malcolm claimed his rightful throne to Scotland. This topic relates to the themes of Macbeth because it shows how guilt can not only make things far worse than they were but can also make the person far worse than they were.

Macbeth quote
Page 109- Act 3 Scene 4
I am in blood
Stepped in so far that, should I wade no more,
Returning were as tedious as go o'er.
In this quote Macbeth is talking to Lady Macbeth. He is saying that he has walked so far into the pool of blood he has created that it's too far to go back to make it how it used to be. His only choices are to take a very risky decision and try to go back to the normal way of life or continue murdering people for his place as king. What he means by, "Returning were as tedious as go o'ver" is that no matter which decision he takes it won't be quick and easy but it will be long and tedious.
Macbeth is slowly but surely going insane due to his personal killings. His guilt is taking over his mental state of mind. His guilt has created more problems. The killings become more obviously targeted to people who Macbeth needs to be killed in order for his cover not to be blown. People start getting suspicious. Macbeth's whole mind is full of guilt. He was driven into killing his close friends which can no doubt make some gradually go insane.
